The Year of the Bob: the Haircut Taking Over our Instagram Feeds
There is one thing trending in 2025 and that’s bob haircuts, in all shapes and forms. The one thing not trending in 2025 is unrealistic hair expectations and standards. Don’t get me wrong I love Sabrina Carpenter hair inspiration, however her long extensions and honey blonde hair make the look quite unachievable and expensive to add.
Great news is we are seeing so many celebs make the chop and go back to their natural roots, giving us more achievable hair inspiration. And get this?! Cutting a bob doesn’t have to be boring in any way. There are so many different cuts and styles you can wear a bob.
Let’s look at some of the trending bob cuts 2025 has in store for us. Here are our favourites at Mermade HQ:
Textured/layered Bob
The opposite to your traditional blunt bob, the textured bob incorporates layers and texture, adding dimension and natural movement.
What to ask for: At the salon ask for layers to add extra dimension and movement.
How to style: We recommend Mermade waving your hair with either our Jumbo Waver or Double Waver to acquire the textured, tousled look.
Best for: This is for those who wish to opt for a more low maintenance bob that can be worn naturally with minimal styling necessary.

Old Hollywood Glamour Bob
Think bouncy blowout in bob form. She’s sleek, shiny and usually sits just below the jawline to allow enough length to achieve the volume and texture needed for a blowout. Zendaya and Kendall have both recently nailed this sophisticated look.
What to ask for: Ask for a cut sitting between chin length and just above the shoulders.
How to style: Create smooth, old Hollywood vintage inspired curls using our Blow Dry Brush.
Best for: This style of bob is perfect for formal events, particularly those where you wish to make a statement with your hair. It is an easy style to achieve on those with naturally voluminous hair.

French bob
This bob is chic, she’s slightly undone, but super sophisticated. She is THAT girl.
What to ask for: Ask for a Parisian-inspired cut at approximately chin length. It can be accessorised with bangs or no bangs…this one is totally up to you!
Extra tip: Ask for the ends to be cut slightly textured or uneven for that "je ne sais quoi" feel.
How to style: The Infrared Thermal Brush is perfect to achieve the desired voluminous look. Curl the bob slightly inwards for that classic French bob look. The Thermal Brush is also great for styling bangs.
Best for: Those who want a shorter bob that gives off ‘super sophisticated’ without even trying! Hair that is naturally straight to wavy works best.

Boxy Bob
The boxy bob is a blunt, boyish cut, which has a sharp, straight shape, which creates an angular and structured look.
What to ask for: Ask for the length to be cut to a uniform length sitting just below the chin or jaw and the ends to be cut blunt.
Extra tip: Don’t add any layering to keep the cut blunt and smooth, which will give the bob a clean, boxy silhouette.
How to style: Our Straightener works wonders to achieve this look. If you are styling regularly on an everyday basis, for healthier heat styling opt for our Infrared Thermal Brush.
Best for: It is the perfect cut for those after a modern look and works best on people with naturally straight hair.

Micro Bob
This bob is basically any minimalist bob that sits higher than the chin, just above the jawline.
What to ask for: Ask for a precision cut with clean, blunt ends that suit your face shape.
Remember to: Keep the cut blunt!
How to style: This is a super short and edgy style, hence we recommend to style either sleek using the Straightener or add texture and bounce using the Infrared Thermal Brush.
Best for: This is for those who want to cut their jaw length even shorter in 2025 and really take things up a notch. Any hair texture or type works great with this style.

Italian Bob
Last but not least, we are seeing the ‘Italian Bob’ everywhere lately. It is similar to some other styles we have mentioned, however has unique characteristics setting it apart. It is a classic, chic bob slightly less blunt than the Boxy Bob, however shorter and more structured than the French Bob and Textured Bob. Gracie Abrams is our Italian bob inspo!
What to ask for: Ask for sharp, blunt edges with a slight inward curve at the bottom.
Extra tip: Ask to keep it short around the whole head with some added layers underneath for volume and movement.
How to style: This bob looks so great worn straight and sophisticated with flicked up ends using the Interchangeable Blow Dry Brush. Alternatively style with curls or waves using the self rotating Spin curling tool. It’s so easy and versatile!
Best for: People who like to change their hair up between sleek and textured will love this cut. This looks great on any hair.
